Those bare bulbs in the corners of the basement can bring out other details and moods. </p><p>I'm particularly loving the "artifacts" connected with using film, such as grain and other limitations like fixed focal length. The pinhole camera just added another dimension, in which the boundaries between reality and the stage fade away. A phone snap in color is different from one converted to black and white, which is different from one taken on [black and white] film.</p><p>I shared a few more views of the <a href="https://papphausen.blogspot.com/2022/03/a-walk-to-shadows-of-papphausen.html">harbor side Kiez of Papphausen</a> in my previous post. Here I head back to <a href="https://papphausen.blogspot.com/search/label/Pappeck">Pappeck</a> to juxtapose snaps from my phone with those from the pinhole and the SLR, all scanned from negatives.</p><p>So anything to keep it interesting and find new details, or inspiration for more. All black and white images taken with the <a href="https://chroma.camera/product/cube-24x24mm-frame-135-pinhole/">Chroma Camera Cube</a> pinhole camera, the others with the Pentax, all on Ilford HP5 film.</p>

Going through some images I found two views of the same place between Cologne and Bonn, <a href="https://goo.gl/maps/5Hu42euF53KnhKso8">Meschenich-Kölnberg</a>. This is a Trabantenstadt (satellite city) not dissimilar from the Plattenbauten in the DDR. The image below is from <a href="https://goo.gl/maps/1mfLJytzLNeeb1Az6">Google's Street View</a> and was captured in 2008. There are also a few residences, and the most recent addition of a <a href="https://papphausen.blogspot.com/2022/01/bindery-interior-almost-done.html">bookbindery</a>. It's not a bad place to live with a Bude (kiosk) selling the essentials of beer, currywurst, sweets, and gossip. These Buden/Kiosks/Trinkhallen are everywhere and essential local fixtures. That said, unseemly things do happen from time to time...<br /><br />All structures are scratchbuilt from card using scans from card models, <a href="https://www.blogger.com/#">Scalescenes sheets</a>, and photographs. All images shot on Ilford HP5 400 speed black and white film using a tripod and cable release for these 2 second average exposures. And no, I did not <a href="https://youtu.be/BeXHWIJJ0a8">forget the Farbfilm</a>. Lighting for most of these was the bare 75 watt cool-white bulb on the basement ceiling. The layout lights were not on.<br /><br /><div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgPlppJYCCP4gufwL3aJyzj3F4xfPeSqaK9IfM1jh5EJH7cYY_NvCZNPmrDcbsScpalr8Ot-gFGhevfsk8xJbEFx7P1Faen00yBKGg7aUPWfpjauX_FdaXq3lClHl4CpvyYumHrMqggRdT54XOfFpUOBm3BBf79bCkCtCwXxPgbI0gMa27wdUW5woHJGA=s900" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="597" data-original-width="900" height="424" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEgPlppJYCCP4gufwL3aJyzj3F4xfPeSqaK9IfM1jh5EJH7cYY_NvCZNPmrDcbsScpalr8Ot-gFGhevfsk8xJbEFx7P1Faen00yBKGg7aUPWfpjauX_FdaXq3lClHl4CpvyYumHrMqggRdT54XOfFpUOBm3BBf79bCkCtCwXxPgbI0gMa27wdUW5woHJGA=w640-h424" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">A view from the harbor towards the rail yard under the bridge. Incorporating that into my train layout seemed like a wonderful way to combine interests...</p><p>This is the concluding post of <a href="https://pressbengel.blogspot.com/search/label/bindery">my "bindery" thread</a>, wrapping up my big push in the last week or so to outfit the interior of the bindery. Shelves and cabinet fronts downloaded from <a href="https://scalescenes.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/TX00a-225x180.jpg">Scalescenes</a>, a few shelves ordered (3-d printed and laser cut) that still require work, but the heavy lifting of workbench, counter tops, board shear, <a href="https://www.talasonline.com/Pragnant-Stamping-Machine">Prägnant stamping press</a>, and standing press were all scratch built to 1:87 or thereabouts. As a frame of reference most figures are just under 2cm tall, and "standard" bench height is about 1cm high.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiDKb2su9Q54MmgwwNywzRSzU9YORdnhCgBr4FvCvbrbH6pu2Ai4m5JKuTqtF6gylXcrIyQHb-AN0f7LUjmhzYfLvEeJVDzWdkUMtg5J29mMpknIlI1R8i3WrPsbKk57-6V9eJEH8xDEpCHU-AsHz_E-YbmIhS_Il0zJkrUhsdgVecix1ceH3eYya1k0g=s900" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="675" data-original-width="900" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/a/AVvXsEiDKb2su9Q54MmgwwNywzRSzU9YORdnhCgBr4FvCvbrbH6pu2Ai4m5JKuTqtF6gylXcrIyQHb-AN0f7LUjmhzYfLvEeJVDzWdkUMtg5J29mMpknIlI1R8i3WrPsbKk57-6V9eJEH8xDEpCHU-AsHz_E-YbmIhS_Il0zJkrUhsdgVecix1ceH3eYya1k0g=w640-h480" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Counters and shelves assembled. Need to work on the harsh lighting and depth of field, but it's a good start. The <a href="https://papphausen.blogspot.com/2010/12/new-reconstruction-3.html">Diebels "Bude"</a> was a few doors down from my grandparents in Duisburg and the place we picked up Opa's case of König Pilsner and sweets as kids. Long neglected, the trains were in need of a deep dusting and cleaning, and most of all just wanted to be run again. In need of some right-sized help, I asked <a href="https://www.instagram.com/fritzottobuchbinder/">Fritz Otto</a>, and he agreed, getting in on the fun. In some respects, it was a very "meta" experience. There are a lot of bookbinding skills applied throughout the layout, particularly box making, as most of the <a href="https://www.philobiblon.com/eisenbahn/plattenbau.shtml">structures are made of card</a>, some kits, but most built from scratch using photos as a basis with photo-realistic pattern sheets, so we all felt at home.</p><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinl501fwgq5xR_mSo092MIVn_Pp7PRhPFBBNVIO8bebtI4EIT3ZU-i_1ZO1f64W91z-fdwTPRsYN3DMDQ1tj58QAYl64_dCjPWYaxWIEfkQAYDq8rTbmM4WPGlXBMcGVQYctHKJqKV9CA/s900/FritzOttoTrains.jpg" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" data-original-height="675" data-original-width="900" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEinl501fwgq5xR_mSo092MIVn_Pp7PRhPFBBNVIO8bebtI4EIT3ZU-i_1ZO1f64W91z-fdwTPRsYN3DMDQ1tj58QAYl64_dCjPWYaxWIEfkQAYDq8rTbmM4WPGlXBMcGVQYctHKJqKV9CA/w640-h480/FritzOttoTrains.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Repositioning figures in front of the <a href="https://www.komoot.com/collection/760/tour-de-trinkhalle-the-22-most-iconic-kiosks-in-the-ruhr-area">Bude, Trinkhalle, or Kiosk</a><br />as it is also called. A racing pigeon shed like those that dotted the Ruhr. The working man's race horses and far from rats with wings. <a href="https://www1.wdr.de/nachrichten/ruhrgebiet/brieftauben-kulturerbe-100.html">There's a nice video </a><a href="https://www1.wdr.de/nachrichten/ruhrgebiet/brieftauben-kulturerbe-100.html">(in German) </a><a href="https://www1.wdr.de/nachrichten/ruhrgebiet/brieftauben-kulturerbe-100.html">from the WDR about raising pigeons here</a>. <br />
The laser-cut card kit is by <a href="https://lasercut-shop.de/Taubenschlag">Joswood</a>. Instructions are clear and materials are first rate. If you want to model northern, industrial, gritty, honest Germany, this is where you want to get your structures. Not an alpine hut in sight.<br />
<br />
Will weather a bit before permanently placing on the layout, but I like where it is now.<br />

An hour ago the E03 wouldn't run or gears move. For the first time EVER totally took apart motor, cleaned gears and brushes, AND even managed to put it back together...<br />

Running the <a href="http://www.philobiblon.com/eisenbahn/puzzle.shtml">switching puzzle</a>. I've taken this to numerous trains shows — the kids love it.

<br />
Still more to do, but it's a start and most importantly, I'm having fun and really enjoying it. I've missed that feeling.<br />
<br />
My father's childhood SE800 also got put on, but without traction tires (never had them) wasn't going anywhere. I have a version with though, too, so will run in spirit.<br />
